Safeguarding Training &
Practice Development
Supporting health and social care services to strengthen safeguarding knowledge, improve understanding and practice to build safer, more inclusive services.

Most organisations don’t just need safeguarding training, they need support to embed safeguarding into everyday practice.
At IMPACT, we support health and social care providers to strengthen safeguarding knowledge, improve professional confidence, reduce risk and develop safer, more responsive services.
Our safeguarding support combines statutory training, focused learning sessions and practice development programmes designed to help teams apply safeguarding confidently in real-world situations.
We also specialise in communication and safeguarding, helping organisations understand how communication barriers can increase risk, reduce participation and impact safety and wellbeing.
Communication, safeguarding, dignity and human rights.

Across health, mental health and social care services there is growing recognition that communication barriers can contribute to safeguarding concerns, safety incidents and inequalities in care.
For many people, including Deaf people, people with learning disabilities and individuals experiencing mental health challenges, communication barriers, misunderstandings and difficulties accessing the right support can increase vulnerability, reduce participation and impact wellbeing and safety.

When communication needs are not recognised or supported, this can lead to:
-
misunderstandings about needs, symptoms or risk
-
missed reasonable adjustments
-
distress, escalation or disengagement
-
safeguarding concerns not being recognised
-
reduced involvement in decision-making
-
barriers to accessing services and support
-
poorer health and wellbeing outcomes

Improving communication practice is therefore not just about good service delivery. It is an important part of safe, lawful and person-centred care.
This is why we provide safeguarding training and communication development.

Improving communication practice strengthens safeguarding.

Anyone working with vulnerable people
We bring together three key approaches that are increasingly
recognised as essential for safe, effective, person centred practice:
-
Accessible communication- Supporting staff to recognise and respond to communication needs and understand behaviour as communication.
-
Trauma-informed practice- Understanding how trauma can affect behaviour, engagement and trust.
-
Strengths-based practice- Recognising and working with people’s strengths and supporting meaningful participation in decisions about their care.
Together these approaches help staff develop practical skills and confidence to communicate in ways that support safer, more inclusive services
Knowledge Pulse & Free Audit Tool:
We run short (2 hour) Knowledge Pulses as an introduction to this, explaining legislation, exploring communication barriers and introducing tools such as trauma informed practice and strengths based approaches.
An audit tool for professionals to look at their services and identify areas for improvement is also available as part of these sessions.
If you would like to book on one of these or arrange a session for your team please get in touch.
